It may well be true that, as the song says, ‘Everything is beautiful in its own way’, but this is not the point that the Preacher is conveying here. The Hebrew gives the picture of a set or appointed time. The beauty comes in recognizing and acknowledging the place and purpose of every person, thing, or event in God’s overall plan. This is all we can do, for the second part of the verse tells us that even though God has given us the ability to investigate and try to make sense of his handiwork, we
